USFK Commander Honors Veterans, Highlights Enduring Alliance at FKI Freedom 250 Dinner

SEOUL, Republic of Korea–Military, corporate, and civic leaders from the United States and the Republic of Korea gathered at the Federation of Korean Industries Tower in Seoul Sept. 17 to celebrate the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence and honor the indispensable ROK-U.S.Alliance.

Hosted by FKI Chairman Ryu Jin, the Freedom 250 commemorative appreciation dinner brought together approximately 180 distinguished guests, including ROK Prime Minister Han Seong-sook, U.S. Ambassador Michelle Steel, former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and several Korean War veterans.

Gen. Xavier T. Brunson, commander of United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, and U.S. Forces Korea, attended the event to reflect on the evolution of the historic partnership and express profound gratitude to the veterans whose sacrifices paved the way for modern prosperity.

“Honored to join Ambassador Steel, Secretary Rice, and Korean War veterans at the FKI Freedom 250 Dinner marking America's 250th anniversary,” Brunson said. “We celebrated what our nations share and defend together: freedom. To the veterans who secured it: thank you.”

The evening's events underscored the alliance’s significant expansion over the last seven decades, evolving from a security pact forged in combat into a comprehensive global partnership spanning trade, advanced technology, and shared values. Despite this growing scope, the bilateral relationship remains fundamentally rooted in military readiness and deterrence.

“That shared sacrifice became the foundation of the ROK-U.S.Alliance, now extending into industry, research, and culture, and resting on an unwavering military posture that secures peace across the peninsula and Indo-Pacific,” Brunson noted.

The dinner aligns with a broader series of Freedom 250 commemorative events and initiatives coordinated by the U.S. Embassy in Seoul and various Korean partners to mark the Semiquincentennial of American independence throughout 2026.
