UNC, CFC and USFK Welcome ROK Defense Minister to Camp Humphreys
CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea — United Nations Command, the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command and U.S. Forces Korea, the Tri-Command, welcomed Republic of Korea Minister of National Defense Kang, Shin-chul to Camp Humphreys Oct. 2 for his first visit to the installation since taking office.
The Tri-Command Honor Guard welcomed Kang during a ceremony at Camp Humphreys. Following the ceremony, Kang met with ROK and U.S. service members assigned to UNC, CFC and USFK, as well as representatives from UNC Member States.
Gen. Xavier T. Brunson, commander of UNC, CFC and USFK, welcomed Kang and underscored the value of his experience and leadership to the alliance.
“You know our people, our processes, and the strength of this alliance. That experience makes your return especially meaningful at this time,” said Brunson. “This welcome is not an introduction; it is a continuation of the work you began when you first entered military service." Brunson also emphasized Kang's leadership is instrumental to the continued maturation of the alliance, at a time when trust, strategy, and combined resolve must continue to work together.
Kang reaffirmed the importance of the ROK-U.S. Alliance and a strong combined defense posture. He called on the Republic of Korea and the United States to build a “warrior culture” capable of overmatching and defeating the enemy.
Kang also commended the Tri-Command senior leaders for their commitment to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. He emphasized the importance of continued close ROK-U.S. coordination as the alliance strengthens combined readiness and deterrence.
The visit reinforced the shared commitment of the Tri-Command to work alongside the Republic of Korea and United Nations Command Member States to strengthen the alliance and preserve peace, security, and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
